Project per Day: Apple Cake Baking :)

Today's afternoon project - apple cake :) And it was delicious!!!
Here's our easy peasy recipe:

3  large eggs (4 if smaller)
1 cup of sugar
1,5 cups of plain flour
1 tbsp baking powder
2 tbsp vanilla sugar
100ml oil (we use olive oil)
2 cups of pealed, cored and chopped apples
1 tbsp cinnamon

  1. Whisk eggs and sugar.
  2. Add flour, baking powder, vanilla sugar and stir well.
  3. Add oil and stir until smooth consistency.
  4. Dust apples with cinnamon and add to the mix. Stir well.
  5. Grease a baking tin, add mix and bake in the oven (180C) for about 30 - 40 minutes. Check with bamboo stick if cooked through (poke it and if it comes out clean with no mix on it - it is done).
  6. Can be dusted with powdered sugar at the end <3

Looovely with a cup of tea :)

Project per Day: Making Balloon Face :)

Here's another project from our list that we've accomplished - a balloon face. We used one balloon, some flour for filling it (easiest done through funnel), a chopstick to stuff the flour down, some yarn for hair and a marker pen for drawing his face. With the flour inside, the balloon becomes like a dough, but without the mess that usually comes with it :) So kids can make any shape face they want :) Just make sure there's no pinching or poking it with sharp things because you'll end up with a pile of flour on the floor :D

Balloon stuffed with flour and the knot on the top

Hair is on :)

Now just shape him :)

Project per Day: Growing Copper Sulfate Crystals :)

After the success of the first project I could not wait to get started with another one. I was looking for something in our shed in the evening and found an old bag of copper sulfate powder. Same powder we used to use with my dad to grow copper sulfate crystals! Lovely blue ones! So next day I ditched the list of projects and we just got on with growing crystals :) And what a great activity it was! It takes about three days for them to grow and you can start seeing some changes as soon as next morning. Here's some photos:

We used: an old egg colouring pan for boiling water,
some copper sulfate powder, plastic spoon,
bamboo stick, some cotton, paper clips and two jars

Left still for three days

Blue lagoon :)
Three days later we got them out :)

The first one out :) Most of them settled in the bottom of the jar

Sorting them out by size and leaving them to dry

The largest one of all! Isn't it a beauty? <3

Project per Day: First Project - Making Soft Toy

Our first Half Term holiday project was chosen by my stepson and it was making a soft toy. I din't expect him to go for that, thought he'd go for woodwork first :D We started of by deciding what he wants to make and it was an obvious one - dinosaur :) so i got him on with a task finding either on Google or in books a dinosaur that he wants and drawing it. It was some underwater creature he found. After that we transferred the drawing onto some material he chose (we recycled old jumper) and started sewing it up, then stuffing it and decorating. Here's how it all came out :)
